Tooth Colored Fillings
Traditionally, amalgam metal fillings were considered the standard in dental restoration for minor chips, cracks, and tooth decay. However, due to their unnatural appearance and the fact that healthy dental structure had to be removed to support them, many dentists now rely on tooth-colored composite resin fillings. Composite fillings are applied in a putty-like consistency directly onto the tooth. Once in place, they are shaped and hardened into position using a curing light. The filling is then smoothed and polished for a natural look and feel.
Dental Crowns
If more than half of the tooth is broken or decayed, or if you have just completed root canal therapy, a filling won’t be enough to restore the tooth’s original shape and strength. Instead, we can place a tooth-shaped cap called a crown on the tooth in question to completely cover it. A crown protects the tooth so that you can still bite and chew with it without putting the remaining dental structure at risk.
