The restoration is made out of a pair of crowns and a number of prosthetic teeth called pontics. The crowns are attached to your natural teeth while the pontics fill in the gap. The entire prosthetic is held in place with metal clasps that are attached to the remaining healthy teeth. A full denture is similarly made from a gum-colored base that supports a full arch of replacement teeth. Since there are no surrounding teeth to support the restoration, a full denture is made to fit snuggly against the gums, and it is held in place through natural suction. Some patients also use a small amount of denture adhesive to add stability to their denture.
