Frequently Asked Dental Questions – Harlingen, TX
Answering Questions About Our Care
Dr. Guillen considers it a privilege to be able to teach patients more about dentistry. If you have any questions about our services or dental care in general, our ears are always open. Of course, we want to make the learning process as convenient for you as possible, so we’ve listed the answers to some of the most possible inquiries we’ve received. Please contact us if you can’t find what you’re looking for on this page.
What precautions do you take to ensure patients’ safety?
In addition to following guidelines set by the Centers for Disease Control (CDC) and OSHA, we use disposable products as often as possible. Between each patient visit, we thoroughly clean treatment rooms and sterilize reusable instruments in an autoclave. Because we value safety, we have invested in digital radiograph, which emits about 90% less radiation than a traditional X-ray machine. We also use intraoral cameras and digital photography for close-up images, which aid in accurate diagnoses. If you have questions about our safety and sterilization methods, call our Harlingen dental office. We'll answer your questions with enthusiasm because we love dentistry and our patients.
I really don’t like visiting the dentist. Can you change my mind?
That’s the goal! And we have an excellent track record. With luxurious amenities and computerized anesthesia delivery your dental visits will feel like a day at the spa! In addition, every member of our team is trained in and committed to helping you feel relaxed and confident during your time with us. In your initial visit, talk with Dr. Guillen about your concerns. He’ll consider it a personal challenge to make you fall in love with dental visits.
How is professional teeth whitening different from over-the-counter whitening?
Over-the-counter teeth whitening is not bad. However, dentist-administered whitening systems are more powerful. We create custom mouth trays to hold a potent bleaching gel closely against teeth and to keep out saliva. These reusable trays will go home with you, so you can touch up your smile whenever it needs a boost. If you run out of whitening gel, call us to order a refill.
Will Dr. Guillen care for my children?
Absolutely. We enjoy creating gorgeous, healthy smiles for patients of any age. If we find that your child – or you, for that matter – would benefit from seeing a specialist, we'll refer to a trusted colleague. Some children deal with dental appointments better at a pedodontist's office, that's what a children's dentist is called. We also refer patients who have extensive dental problems, like advanced periodontitis or problematic root canals, to specialists for optimal care. As a general dentist office, our preventive, restorative, prosthetic, and cosmetic dental services include treatments suitable for patients of all ages.
Why do I have bad breath? Can you help?
Halitosis, which we know as “bad breath,” usually originates with bacteria, and it affects about 60 million Americans. Dental problems like gum disease, plaque buildup, and tooth decay greatly contribute to bad breath. Oral bacteria put off a smelly byproduct, called volatile sulfur compounds, or VSCs. We offer a strong and proven solution – BreathRx. This product line includes toothpaste, rinse, a tongue scraper, and sugar-free gum to battle the VSCs that smell so bad.
Do you accept insurance?
We will be more than happy to electronically file your out-of-network claim and accept assignment of benefits. Just be ready to pay your co-pay or deductible at your visit, and we’ll take care of the rest.
What payment methods do you accept?
We, of course, accept cash, and your personal check is welcome, as well. You may pay by credit card, or if you prefer to finance your dental work, visit CareCredit online to submit an application for a low or no interest loan.
